Mundra Port Creates History: Becomes India’s First Port to Handle 20.27 Million Metric Tonnes of Cargo in a Single Month

Mundra Port in Kutch becomes India's first port to handle 20.27 million metric tonnes of cargo in a single month. October 2026 also brings record container handling, railway operations and double-stack container movement.

Adani Ports’ Mundra Port achieves record-breaking performance in October 2026, setting new benchmarks in container handling, terminal operations, railway transportation and double-stack container logistics.

Mundra Port in Gujarat’s Kutch district has created history in India’s maritime and logistics sector by becoming the first port in the country to handle an unprecedented 20.27 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo in a single month.

Operated by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), the port achieved this milestone in October 2026, marking its highest-ever monthly cargo throughput and setting a new benchmark for India’s port industry.

The achievement goes beyond overall cargo volumes, with Mundra Port recording multiple new monthly records across container handling, individual terminal operations, fertiliser cargo and railway logistics.

Record 8.59 Lakh TEUs in Monthly Container Handling

Mundra Port recorded its highest-ever monthly container throughput of 8.59 lakh TEUs in October 2026, highlighting its growing capacity to support international trade and large-scale cargo movement.

The port’s CT3 terminal also achieved a significant milestone by handling 3.18 lakh TEUs during the month. This surpassed its previous record of 3.10 lakh TEUs, set in September 2026.

According to the company, this is the highest monthly container volume handled by a single container terminal in India.

Additionally, the T2 terminal recorded its highest-ever monthly throughput of 1.55 lakh TEUs.

Fertiliser Cargo Handling Reaches New High

Mundra Port also achieved a new milestone in dry cargo operations.

Its dry cargo terminal handled 0.79 million metric tonnes of fertiliser in October 2026, marking the highest monthly fertiliser volume recorded at the port to date.

SPRH Sets New Container Handling Records

SPRH, an important part of Mundra Port’s multimodal logistics network, also delivered record-breaking performance.

It handled 1.57 lakh TEUs in a single month, surpassing its previous record of 1.54 lakh TEUs achieved in December 2025.

The team also recorded its highest-ever exchange of 246 TEUs per rake, further strengthening its operational performance.

Railway Operations Handle 1,870 Trains in October

Rail connectivity continues to play a crucial role in Mundra Port’s cargo transportation network.

During October 2026, the port handled a total of 1,870 trains, comprising:

  • 282 goods trains
  • 1,588 container trains
  • 793 export container trains
  • 795 import container trains

The total cargo transported through railway operations during the month reached 3.87 million metric tonnes (MMT).

These figures highlight the importance of rail-based logistics in facilitating the movement of goods between Mundra Port and various domestic destinations.

New Milestone in Double-Stack Container Operations

Mundra Port’s railway team also established a new record in double-stack container train operations.

A total of 1,038 double-stack rakes were handled during October 2026. Railway operations also recorded an impressive 1.99 lakh TEUs in container handling during the month.

Double-stack container operations enable the transportation of two layers of containers on specially designed railway wagons, supporting higher container movement capacity.

Mundra Strengthens Its Position as a Major Logistics Gateway

The multiple records achieved in October reflect Mundra Port’s extensive infrastructure, strong railway connectivity, efficient terminal operations and ability to handle different categories of cargo at a large scale.

The port’s performance across cargo handling, container terminals and railway logistics further reinforces its position as one of India’s leading ports and integrated logistics gateways.

Located on the coast of Kutch, Gujarat, Mundra Port has become an important centre for India’s international trade, import-export activities and multimodal transportation network.

Its latest achievement represents another significant milestone for Gujarat’s maritime infrastructure and highlights the growing importance of Kutch in India’s economic and logistics landscape.
